Caracas [Venezuela], August 6 (ANI): Six suspects were detained for an alleged assassination attempt on Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro, confirmed Interior Minister Nestor Reverol.
Reverol revealed that one of the arrested suspects is accused of involvement in a 2017 attack on a military base, while another suspect was detained earlier in 2014 over involvement in anti-government protests, reported Sputnik.
Venezuela's Information Minister Jorge Rodriguez told Sputnik that the attackers were preparing the operation for around six months.
Earlier, Maduro accused Colombia's far-right groups and outgoing president Juan Manuel Santos for what he called as an "attempt to assassinate him."
Hours after an explosive drone rocked a military ceremony, Maduro appeared on Venezuela's national television saying, "I'm alive and victorious," CNN reported.
The 55-year-old leader pinned the blame on American financers and planners for the 'drone attack'.
The Venezuelan President was speaking at the celebration of the National Guard's 81st anniversary when the 'attack' occurred. Maduro and other government officials were evacuated immediately. (ANI)
