5 injured as Typhoon Trami hits southern Japan

Okinawa [Japan], Sept 29 (ANI): Typhoon Trami, rated Category 2, brought life to a standstill while injuring five in Okinawa and the Amami Islands in Kagoshima Prefecture in southern Japan on Saturday.

Okinawa [Japan], Sept 29 (ANI): Typhoon Trami, rated Category 2, brought life to a standstill while injuring five in Okinawa and the Amami Islands in Kagoshima Prefecture in southern Japan on Saturday.
Lashing rains and massive power outages have left thousands of people in the lurch, according to Al Jazeera.
"It has a central atmospheric pressure of 950 hectopascals and is carrying winds of up to 162 kilometers per hour near its center", the public broadcaster of Japan NHK reported.
They further said that the typhoon "could affect other parts of the country through Monday".
Meanwhile, Japan Meteorological Agency said that the typhoon has a "very strong" intensity and wind gust speeds can measure up to 222 km/h (120 kt). Weather officials expect up to 400 millimeters of rain for Amami and up to 250 millimeters of rain for Okinawa in 24 hours, according to the public broadcaster.
The agency further appealed to the people to stay alert as rough weather conditions are expected to last till Monday, while the typhoon heads northeast as it gains speed.
The Okinawa Electric Power Company, which is responsible for electricity supply in the Okinawa prefecture, said that about 195,000 households have lost electricity in the area and neighbouring islands.
NHK also reported that over 380 flights, mainly flying in and out of Okinawa, have been cancelled. (ANI)
