Delaware [USA], Oct 25 (ANI): Two suspicious packages have been located by law enforcement authorities addressed to former Vice President Joe Biden, amidst a string of similar incidents that have put the United States on edge.
The packages have been intercepted in postal facilities in Delaware and Wilmington, CNN reported quoting law enforcement authorities.
These are the latest 'suspicious packages' that have been tracked down by authorities in a string of incidents that have targeted prominent Democrat leaders like former US President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and the CNN office in New York.
Authorities state that the package in Delaware has similar markings like those that have been previously intercepted.
The FBI has launched an intensive investigation into the incidents and have posted pleas for information on their official Twitter account. "If you have info that could assist the #FBI's investigation of suspicious packages, call 1-800-CALLFBI (225-5324) or use http://tips.fbi.gov . If you observe suspicious activity that requires an immediate response, call 911 or contact local law enforcement immediately, "read the latest tweet by FBI.
Furthermore, bomb containment units have reached the postal facility in Delaware where the package has been located.
Earlier in the day, a hazardous package was detected in Tribeca, Manhattan, near Hollywood veteran Robert De Niro's restaurant. The parcels are reported to be inherently unstable and can be set off merely by handling.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions acknowledged the shocking incidents while condemning it in the "strongest possible terms". "Across this administration-across this country-we condemn these actions in the strongest possible terms and we are determined that justice will be done."
He further thanked all law enforcement officers at an event regarding the opioid crisis. "I just want everyone to know that this Department is responding to the suspicious packages that have been sent to several political leaders and a media outlet in the last days and those found today. Yesterday I spoke to FBI Director Wray and Deputy Director Bowdich and briefed the President. FBI and ATF are working together on this. And I want to thank all of our law enforcement officers who have undoubtedly saved lives this week and are working around the clock."
De Niro's spokesperson also broke his silence on Thursday and termed the incidents as "extremely disturbing and frightening". "Extremely disturbing and frightening. It seems that all the people that were targeted have one thing in common and that is their political beliefs. That is the only thing I can conclude at this point," Stan Rosenfield told CNN.
US President Donald Trump, too, condemned the incidents and called for unity to send a strong message to the perpetrators.
There has been no claim of responsibility behind any of the packages, as intensive investigations continue. (ANI)
