Wrist fracture rules Santner out of opening Test against Pak

Christchurch [New Zealand], Nov.4 (ANI): In a major blow to New Zealand, all-rounder Mitchell Santner has been ruled out of opening Test of the two-match series against Pakistan due to a fractured wrist. The 24-year-old was struck on his right wrist during a practice session with the Northern Districts and is now also doubtful for the second Test, which will begin from November 25 in Hamilton. Reflecting on Santner's injury, New Zealand coach Mike Hesson said although it looks unlikely for the all-rounder to be available for the second Test, they would closely monitor his recovery in order to have him back. "After such a strong tour of India, it's really disappointing for Mitch to pick up this injury ahead of the first match of the home summer. We're unsure whether Mitch will be available for the second Test at this stage, but we'll be monitoring his recovery closely and look forward to having him back," Hesson was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. The left-arm spinner showcased a promising performance during the recently-concluded three-match Test series against India, where he finished as New Zealand's joint-highest wicket-taker with 10 wickets in their 0-3 drubbing. He also proved to be effective in the five-match ODI series in India, which the visitors lost by 2-3. New Zealand will play their first match against the Misbah-ul-Haq-led side from November 17 in Christchurch. (ANI)
