Wriddhiman Saha's maiden double ton helps Rest of India clinch Irani Cup
Mumbai [India], Jan.24 (ANI): Wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha smashed his maiden double century while Cheteshwar Pujara notched his 37th first-class century as Rest of India defeated Gujarat by six wickets to retain Irani Trophy at Brabourne Stadium here on Tuesday. Chasing a daunting target of 379 runs, Saha struck 26 boundaries and six sixes in his unbeaten 203-run knock besides sharing a massive 316-run stand for fifth wicket with first drop Pujara (unbeaten at 116) to ensure his side came out victorious. Rest of India had started the chase on a bad note as they lost openers Akhil Herwadkar and Abhinav Mukund for mere 20 and 19 runs , respectively. Middle-order batsmen Karun Nair (7) and Manoj Tiwary (7) also failed to contribute much in their side's victory as both were dismissed cheaply by Hardik Patel and Mohit Thadani. Earlier, Rest of India also produced a brilliant bowling performance as they bundled out Gujarat for just 246 runs in their second innings. Shahbaz Nadeem was the pick of the bowlers for Rest of India as he claimed four wickets for 64 runs while Siddarth Kaul bagged three wickets. Mohammed Siraj and Pankaj Singh also shared three wickets between themselves. Saha was adjudged `Man of the Match` for his brilliant contribution with the bat.(ANI)
