Women's BBL star Dottin suffers multiple cheekbone fractures after collision
Barbados [West Indies], Dec.28 (ANI): West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin has suffered multiple cheekbone fractures after an on-field head clash during the Women's Big Bash League (BBL) match between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars. Reflecting on her injury, Dottin said via her Facebook account, "Eye socket and eyesight is fine, Jaw and teeth fine. I am out of hospital now recovering before a specialist appointment with a face surgeon on Thursday. At this stage it is believed I will require titanium plates to fix the issues." She, however, insisted that she is recovering and all is going to be fine soon. According to ESPNcricinfo, the Cricket Australia (CA) informed that Dottin would check in with Brisbane Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon Dr. John Arvier to finalise a timeline for her recovery. The 25-year-old, who was playing for Brisbane Heat, was earlier rushed to the hospital on Tuesday after she collided with her teammate Laura Harris at the deep mid-wicket boundary during the BBL game against Melbourne Stars at the Allan Border field. The incident took place in the 11th over of the chase when Meg Lanning hit seamer Haidee Birkett over midwicket and Dottin and Harris were the fielders at that time. The duo was trying to prevent the ball from crossing the boundary when they crashed into each other. Dottin seemed to have landed awkwardly on a kit bag and was taken off the field in a stretcher by the medical staff. Harris, on the other hand, was thrown into the picket fence, but she was well enough to continue playing at the ground until the end of the match, which Heat went on to win by five runs. The accident came a day after Heat's fast bowler Holly Ferling suffered a concussion after her head was struck hard into the turf while trying to catch the ball. (ANI)
