Williamson's heroics steers Kiwis to easy win over B'desh in T20 series opener
Napier [New Zealand], Jan.3 (ANI): New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson struck a quick-fire half-century as his team registered a comfortable six-wicket win over Bangladesh in the first T20 of the three-match series at the McLean Park here on Tuesday. Opting to bat first, Bangladesh made a slow start to their innings, losing opener Tamim Iqbal (11) and Imrul Kayes (duck) cheaply. Although Mahmudullah did provide his side with some resistance with his 52-run knock, Bangladesh were restricted to a score of 141 runs in their stipulated 20 overs. For the hosts, Lockie Ferguson was pick of the bowlers for his figures of three for 32 while Ben Wheeler scalped two wickets. Matt Henry, Mitchell Santner and Colin de Grandhomme chipped in with a wicket. In reply, New Zealand lost opener Neil Broom for mere six run before Williamson smashed five boundaries and two sixes in his unbeaten 73-run knock and shared a crucial 81-run stand with de Grandhomme (41) for fifth wicket to help his side chase down the target with 12 balls to spare. Williamson was declared `Man of the Match` for his match-winning contribution with the bat. New Zealand, who have now taken 1-0 win in the three-match series, will play their second T20 against Bangladesh on January 6 at Bay Oval. (ANI)
