Warner blasts sluggish Lankan pitches despite ODI series win
Johannesburg [South Africa], Sep.1 (ANI): Australian stand-in skipper David Warner has slammed pitches in Sri Lanka despite clinching the five-match ODI series against the hosts, saying his batsmen were being restricted from scoring big targets during the tour. Warner's comments came after Australia took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series after registering a six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the fourth ODI at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. George Bailey smashed 11 boundaries and one six in his unbeaten knock of 90 runs while opener Aaron Finch struck a 19-ball 55 to help Australia chase down a target of 213 runs within just 31 overs. While insisting that it was more of a watching tour for him, Warner praised his side's second ODI win over Lanka and also lauded the way Finch came out and played his game,Sport24 reported. However, the 29-year-old admitted that it was disappointing for his side to play in Lanka's sluggish wickets as they advocate an aggressive brand of cricket. Warner said that the Australian batsmen found it extremely hard to gain momentum in Lankan pitches while pointing out the difficulties in attracting a larger audience due to bad wickets. Australia will now play the inconsequential fifth match against the Angelo Mathews-led side at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy on Sunday.(ANI)
