Sammy axed as Windies T20 captain in `30-sec phone-call`
Barbados, Aug.6 (ANI): West Indies' Darren Sammy, who led the Caribbean side to WorldT20 glory, revealed that he had been sacked from the post of the skipper in a 30-seconds telephonic conversation with the head of the selectors. Posting an emotional video on his Facebook page, the 32-year-old revealed that he would not be the West Indies T20 captain anymore, saying the chairman of selectors had informed him they had reviewed his captaincy in T20 and that he did not merit a place in the West Indies squad. "I got a call yesterday, it was probably 30 seconds, from the chairman of selectors telling me that they've reviewed the captaincy of T20 and I won't be captain anymore of the T20 team, and my performances have not merited selection in the squad," Sammy revealed in a video. Sammy, however, wished luck to the incoming new captain who would lead the country's cricket and take it forward. Admitting that he would cherish the victory in the two T20 World Cups, Sammy also thanked the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for letting him lead the side for last six years. "Obviously, throughout my captaincy, winning the two T20 World Cups has been the highlight. And these memories I will cherish for a long time. This is not me retiring from one-day or T20, it's just me thanking the fans and my players and the coaches I've worked with and WICB for.yeah, letting me lead the side for the last six years. But for now the captaincy has come to an end and thank you people. I just know I played with my heart and soul whenever I stepped out on the cricket field," he said. Besides Sammy, West Indies wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin also chose social media to tweet about his exclusion from the Test side against India. West Indies are currently hosting India in a four-Test series which will be followed by two Twenty 20s in Florida on August 27 and 28. (ANI)
