Saha, Ashwin guide India to solid first innings' total in St. Lucia Test
St. Lucia, Aug.10 (ANI): Wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha smashed his maiden century while all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin supported him well as India posted a first innings' total of 353 runs on the Day Two of the third Test against West Indies here at Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. Resuming at yesterday's score of 234-5, Saha (104) and Ashwin (118) went on to share a huge 213-partnership for sixth wicket to propel their side to a big first innings' total. Saha, who got dismissed at the hands of Alzarri Joseph shortly after scoring his maiden ton, struck 13 boundaries on his way of reaching the three-figure mark. After losing Saha and Ashwin, the visitors' lower-order batsmen didn't manage to counter West Indies's bowling attack for long as India ended up losing their last four wickets for just six runs. For the Caribbean side, Joseph and Miguel Cummins scalped three wickets each while Shannon Gabriel and Roston Chase also shared four wickets between themselves. Earlier, India's star batsmen namely opener Shikhar Dhawan (one), skipper Virat Kohli (three) and Rohit Sharma (nine) all fell short of runs in the ongoing crucial match. India are currently leading the four-match Test series 1-0 following their massive win by an innings and 92 runs against the Windies in the opening match at Antigua. The second match between two sides ended in a draw at Sabina Park in Jamaica. (ANI)
