Records galore as Maxwell fires Australia to emphatic T20 win over Sri Lanka
Pallekele [Sri Lanka], Sept.6 (ANI): Australia set a new world record score in Twenty20 internationals as they claimed a thumping 85-run victory over Sri Lanka to lead the two-match series 1-0 in Pallekele on Tuesday. Put in to bat first, Australia posted a mammoth score of 263-3 after Glenn Maxwell wreaked havoc on a hapless Sri Lankan attack with his blistering knock of 145 not out at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Earlier, Sri Lanka held the record for the highest T20I score when they smashed 260-6 against Kenya in 2007. Maxwell's 65-ball knock, featuring 14 fours and nine sixes, was the second highest individual score in T20 internationals behind teammate Aaron Finch (156). The swashbuckling batsman, who opened the innings, also received able support from Travis Head (45), Usman Khawaja (36) and David Warner (28). In reply, Sri Lanka could only make 178-9 in their stipulated 20 overs despite Dinesh Chandimal (58) and Chamara Kapugedera (43) scoring brisk knocks. This was Sri Lanka's biggest defeat in the format. The second and final T20 will be played in Colombo on Friday. (ANI)
