PSL fixing row: Najam Sethi asks players to 'relax', says no more suspension necessary
Karachi [Pakistan], Feb. 12 (ANI): As the Pakistan Cricket Board suspended Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif over charges of match fixing, Najam Sethi, chairman of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has said that no other player, apart from the duo, would be suspended from the league provided there was no "new cause for action". "No more player suspensions are envisaged during PSL PROVIDED there is no NEW cause for action," he said on Twitter. "Failure to promptly report any attempt to corrupt and subvert PSL will be cause for action. Media should stop speculation. Players should relax, play the game and bring joy to millions of fans at home and abroad," he added. The PCB has provisionally suspended Sharjeel and Khalid under its Anti-Corruption Code as part of an ongoing investigation into an international syndicate which is believed to be attempting to corrupt the T20 league being played in Dubai. As per the Dawn, a decision regarding Khalid and Sharjeel will likely be taken by the PCB within the next 15 days. Yesterday, Sethi had said that three other players were also being questioned, but that they would continue to play the PSL, dismissing media reports that more players had been sent packing. "PCB ACU has questioned M Irfan. Inquiry will continue. He does not face any immediate suspension. PCB ACU has questioned S Hassan and Z Babar. They will continue to play @thePSLt20 . PCB ACU will remain vigilant and continue to protect @thePSLt20 from the menace of corruption," he said in a series of tweets. Both Sharjeel and Latif play for defending champions Islamabad United in the fledgling PSL, the second season of which began in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday. Sharjeel, who made his Test debut against Australia in Sydney last month, has played 25 ODIs and 15 T20Is. Latif has represented Pakistan in five ODIs and 13 T20Is.(ANI)
