Proud of your remarkable feat: PM Modi congratulates Karun Nair
New Delhi [India], Dec. 19(ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated middle order Indian Test batsman Karun Nair for his maiden triple century in the fifth test match being played against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Taking to the Twitter Prime Minister Modi said, "Congratulations on the historic triple century @karun126! We all are delighted & proud of your remarkable feat." Nair unbeaten 303* helped India to declare on 759/7, thus getting a lead of 282 runs on the fourth day of the Chennai Test. Nair has become the second player to touch this score after legendary cricketer Virender Sehwag who made this record 12 years and 8 months ago against Pakistan in Multan. Back in March 2008, the Chepauk Stadium had witnessed the first triple-hundred on Indian soil as Sehwag plundered 319 against South Africa. The Karnataka boy, playing his third Test, having made his debut in this series only at Mohali, smashed 32 fours and four sixes in his historic innings. Nair's 300 is now the fifth highest individual score Test score by an Indian batsman. Sehwag's 319 and 300, followed by VVS Laxman's 281 and Dravid's 278 are the best Test scores before. Nair also joined special company as Sobers hit a then world record 365 not out as a 21-year-old against Pakistan in 1958 while former Australia skipper Simpson had made 311. (ANI)
