Pakistan Cup `a real opportunity` to impress selectors, believes Anwar Ali
Karachi [Pakistan], Apr 20 (ANI): All-rounder Anwar Ali believes the ongoing Pakistan Cup is a `real opportunity` for players like him to impress the national selectors ahead of the Champions Trophy, which is slated to be held in England and Wales in June. The 29-year-old, who appeared in a total of 22 ODIs and 16 T20Is for Pakistan, insisted that he wants to grab this opportunity with both hands. "As a professional player, a tournament like the Pakistan Cup is a real opportunity to impress selectors. These matches are telecasted live on TV, and then there are selectors who are watching as well. Now it is up to players, like us, to grab this opportunity with both hands," the Express Tribune quoted Anwar as saying. Anwar, who is representing Sindh in the ongoing 50-over tournament, also praised the playing surface of the Rawalpindi stadium, saying that the pitch provide a lot of assistance to the pacers. "Yes these pitches are difficult for batsmen, but really good for pacers. If you put your effort in and bowl in the right areas, you will be able to do good on these tracks. Even though there have been scores of over 300 quite consistently, but in just four matches, two pacers have claimed five wickets in an innings," he concluded. The 11-match tournament, which began on April 16, is witnessing the participation of five teams namely Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). Earlier, players like Shadab Khan and Usman Khan Shinwari were identified through the second edition of the Pakistan Super League ( PSL). (ANI)
