No ego battle with Williamson: Du Plessis
Johannesburg [South Africa], Mar. 7 (ANI): South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has insisted that there will be no ego contest between him and his New Zealand counterpart Kane Williamson in the lead up to the first Test of the three-match series beginning Wednesday in Dunedin. Du Plessis observed the on-field captaincy battle between Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his Australian counterpart in the second Test of the four-match series in Bengaluru, which the hosts won by 75-runs. "I've seen it (footage of Kohli and Smith). It looks like a great battle at the moment, but that style of captaincy is obviously different (to ours)," Sport24 quoted Du Plessis as saying. The 32-year-old asserted that he and Williamson have similar personalities and, therefore, there won't be too much of a battle going on there - ego wise. "It's more when you play guys that try and act like they want to run the show that's when the captains can have a bit of an ego contest on the field," he said. "But not with the two of us, we're pretty chilled in the same way, but it's just about getting the best out of our team - if we can do that in our own way then that's what's important," he added. The first Test will be followed by games at Wellington (March 16-20) and Hamilton (March 25-29). (ANI)
