Nasser Hussain terms Eoin Morgan's team as England's best ever
Melbourne [Australia], Sept.3 (ANI): England's current one-day side is the best cricket unit the country has ever produced, according to former captain Nasser Hussain. Hussain, who captained England in 56 ODIs during his 88-match career, stated that his all-time England 50-over side would feature the current side's entire batting order, cricket.com.au reported. "Who could you leave out of any previous England one-day team?" Hussain wrote in a leading UK-based daily. "Alex Hales? Jason Roy? Joe Root? Jos Buttler? Eoin Morgan? Ben Stokes? They are by far the most powerful and thrilling unit we have ever had." Acknowledging the challenge in comparing era due to the evolution of the ODI game, the former batsman-turned commentator described 1992 World Cup finalist Graham Gooch's side as the best he had seen behind the current squad. "It is difficult to make comparisons with England's best one-day team before now - Graham Gooch's 1992 World Cup runners-up - because it is such a different game," he said. "But, with caveats, you have to say Morgan's side must be regarded as being better. "However good Gooch's side were - after all, the iconic Ian Botham was a member - the current side would beat them." His list also doesn't include England's five highest ODI run-scorers: Ian Bell, Paul Collingwood, Alec Stewart, Kevin Pietersen and Marcus Trescothick. Since the dismal 2015 World Cup campaign, England have displayed remarkable performance over the last 16 months in the one-day format. Morgan's side fired a world record 3-444 against Pakistan at Trent Bridge on Tuesday night. (ANI)
