`Naive` batting performance cost us Lord's defeat: Cook
London, July 18 (ANI): England skipper Alastair Cook has blasted at his side's naive batting performance which eventually cost them a 75-run defeat against Pakistan in the opening Test of the four match series at Lord's. Cook, who was the top scorer for the hosts with 81 in the first innings, believes his side's failure to cope with Pakistani leg-spinner Yasir Shah's bowling attack led to the home side's defeat. While admitting that his side were 100 runs short in the first innings, the 31-year-old left-handed opener lamented the shot selection of his batters, the Mirror reported. The skipper, however, called on his side to recover from the defeat and improve themselves in order to take the series in their favour. Yasir, the talismanic leg-spinner, bagged the Man of the Match award for taking a total of 10 wickets across two innings as England struggled to build partnerships and were eventually bundled out for 207 on the fourth day while chasing a target of 283 runs to win. England will now aim to level the series in the second Test at Old Trafford, starting on Friday. (ANI)
