Lyon urges spinners to attack stumps more in final Lanka Test
Johannesburg, Aug.7 (ANI): After going down two-nil in the three-match Test series against Sri Lanka, Australia spinner Nathan Lyon has called on his fellow tweakers to attack the stumps more aggressively in order to avoid series whitewash against the Angelo Mathews-led side. Earlier, Kusal Perera, who was declared ` Man of the Match`, scalped 10-wicket match haul to guide his side to a massive 229-run lead and series win against Australia in the second Test at Galle. Meanwhile, Australia have performed below par, including top-order batsmen David Warner, Joe Burns, Usman Khawaja and Adam Voges who all averaged less than 25. Lyon said there is nothing wrong with his side's technique when it comes to bowling spin, however, admitting that they are bowling in the wrong places against spin-savvy Lankan batsmen. The 28-year-old spinner also didn't shy away from taking the blame after the loss, saying that he and Jon Holland had failed to perform at their absolute best in the last match, Sport24 reported. Lyon, who recently became the first Aussie off-spinner to take 200 Test wickets, further vowed that he would work on his variations ahead of the final Test. Australia will now play an inconsequential Test against Lanka, starting at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground on August 13. (ANI)
