`Injured` Ngidi ruled out of ODI series against Kiwis
Johannesburg [South Africa], Feb.8 (ANI): South Africa pacer Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the 14-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand after failing to recover fully from an abdominal injury he suffered last month. The 20-year-old quick sustained the injury during his side's five-wicket defeat in the second T20 of the three-match series against Sri Lanka in Cape Town two weeks ago. David Miller, who was ruled out of the ongoing five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka due to a finger injury, has been recalled in the squad against the Kane Williamson-led side,ESPNcricinfo reported. Meanwhile, Cobras' bowler Dane Paterson has also been included in the national side as a cover for Dwaine Pretorius for the lone T20 international as well as for the first ODI of the five-match series. Pretorius will miss these two matches to be with his wife who is awaiting the birth of his first child. Paterson made his Proteas debut in the T20 international series against Sri Lanka but has yet to be capped in the 50 overs format. Reflecting on the squad, Linda Zondi, South Africa's convener of selectors, said, "We, as selectors are very happy with the way the squad has gelled over the past 6 months and consistency in selection is very important as we continue our build-up towards the ICC Champions Trophy tournament." South Africa are slated to play one-off T20 match, five ODIs and three Test matches beginning February 17 at Eden Park, Auckland. The South Africa ODI squad is as follows: AB de Villiers (captain), Faf du Plessis, Hashim Amla, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock (wk), JP Duminy, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Chris Morris, Wayne Parnell, Dane Paterson, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi.(ANI)
