India fail to complete clean sweep, lose by 5 runs in Kolkata ODI
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], Jan. 22 (ANI): Dashing Indian skipper Virat Kohli's hopes of completing a clean sweep, England on Sunday defeated India by five runs in the third and the final ODI at the iconic Eden Gardens here in Kolkata. Ben Stokes turned out to be the golden boy for England as he not only struck crucial knock of 57 off 39 balls to help his team post a commanding total of 321/8, but also chipped in with his bowling by taking three wickets. In reply, India started off on a jittery note as the fierce spell from the England duo Jake Ball and Liam Plunkett, who took two and one wickets respectively, constantly troubled the India's top-order. However, India received some respite when skipper Kohli and Yuvraj Singh, in the middle, stitched together a 65-run partnership. Subsequently, a valiant knock from Kedar Jadhav, who remained the top scorer for India with his 90 (75), kept the visitors peeved. Jadhav, coming in at the halfway stage, stayed on until the very last over by playing some outrageous shots. At one point he was picking boundaries for fun, with England digging it in at him repeatedly. Eventually they changed their plans, held their nerve, made it hard on Jadhav and dismissed him to come out victorious. Later, Stokes was declared 'Man of the Match' for his brilliant performance with the bat and bowl. Jadhav, on the other hand, was declared Man of the Series for amassing 232 runs in three matches.India has already clinched the series 2-1. (ANI)
