India defeat England in Mumbai Test, reclaim Anthony De Mello trophy
Mumbai [India], Dec. 12 (ANI): Ace off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Monday wrecked havoc and clinched yet another five-wicket haul as India defeated England by an innings and 36 runs on the final day of the Mumbai Test here at Wankhede. This is only the third time a team batting first has made 400 and then lost by an innings. Resuming at the overnight score of 182/6, England batsmen fell prey to some classic off spin bowling from Ashwin who wrapped the visitor's innings in just 32 minutes. India made massive 631 in their first innings in reply to England's 400, assisted by the double centuries by the captain Virat Kohli and centuries by Murli Vijay and Jayant Yadav. Kohli scored 235 and became the first Indian captain to score three double centuries in the Tests. Jayant Yadav shared a record 241-run stand with the Indian captain. He became the first Indian to score a Test hundred at Number 9 position. By defeating the Alastair cook led side here, India have regained the Anthony de mello trophy which was with England after they won here in 2012. (ANI)
