CSA to recruit new coach after England Tour; Domingo can re-apply for post
Johannesburg [South Africa], Jan. 29 (ANI): Cricket South Africa (CSA) have announced that they are about to start the search for a new coach, which, thereby means that current coach Russell Domingo could be asked to leave once his contract ends in August. Domingo has had two extensions of his contract ever since he was appointed in 2013 after Gary Kirsten's shocking decision to step down from the post. The 42-year-old was initially appointed to take Proteas through to the 2015 World Cup but his contract was extended to April 2016 even before the pinnacle tournament. And the latest extension is until the England tour in August where South Africa will play three one-day internationals, three Twenty20 games and four Test matches. However, no further extensions seem to be on the cards. "The board of directors resolved to commence the recruitment process for the appointment of a Proteas head coach to take charge after the tour to the UK until after the 2019 edition of the ICC World Cup," Sport24 quotes a last paragraph of a statement following a board meeting. However, when asked for clarification about the same, a CSA spokesperson said Domingo could apply if he wanted to continue. The Proteas are currently ranked third in Tests, second in ODIs and fourth in T20 cricket.(ANI)
