Cricket fraternity congratulates Kohli & co. after record run-chase
New Delhi [India], Jan.16 (ANI): The Virat Kohli-led side received a flurry of wishes from the cricketing fraternity after they made an amazing start to the year by clinching a nerve-wracking three-wicket win over England in the opening ODI of the three-match series at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune. Kedar Jhadav (120 off 76 balls), who came to bat at No. 7 after India had lost four wickets at 63, batted extremely well with newly-appointed skipper Kohli (122) as the duo stitched together a record 200-run partnership to ensure the host chase down the mammoth target of 351. Congratulating Team India for their first win of the year, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar lauded Kohli and Jadhav for changing the momentum brilliantly and putting the pressure back on the Eoin Morgan-led side. "First win for 2017! Well done Team India, this is an amazing start to the year. Keep winning #INDvENG. @imVkohli & @JadhavKedar changed the momentum brilliantly & put the pressure back on Eng by playing some spectacular shots. #IndvEng," Tendulkar said in a series of tweets. Hailing India's brilliant chase against England, all-rounder Irfan Pathan wrote on Twitter, "Such an amazing chase despite losing 4 early wickets.well done team India @BCCI.Great knocks by @imVkohli @JadhavKedar #INDvENG." Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag continued his typical witty way while expressing his pleasure over the win. He wrote, "Hahahahahaha ! Dus Guna Lagaan Vasool. #INDvENG" Wishing India for their historic victory, former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman said that he is mighty impressed with the way Kohli and Jadhav performed under-pressure. "Congrats Team India on a historic win????1 more special knock from @imVkohli ??Very impressed with the way @JadhavKedar played under pressure??," Laxman said. While former Indian women's captain Anjum Chopra hailed Team India for making a winning start to the year, renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle said that a stunning chase by the team clearly showcase their batting depth. "No sanctity to 350! But this has been a stunning chase showcasing Indian batting depth," Bhogle tweeted. Jadhav, who notched up his second ODI century, was extremely attacking as he smashed the England bowlers to all parts of the ground and hit 12 boundaries and four sixes. He scored the fifth fastest century and became the fourth Indian batsman to do so, joining the likes of Kohli, Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh. Kohli, on the other hand, didn't show any sign of added pressure of captaincy, and was equally fluent and artistic with the bat as he scored his 27th ODI century. Defending the short boundaries was too difficult a task for England, with only Jake Ball - who took 3 for 67 - and Chris Woakes going at fewer than seven runs an over. It was the fourth highest successful run chase in ODI history. The two teams will next meet on January 19 at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. (ANI)
