Courtney Walsh leaves door open for Windies coaching gig
Johannesburg [South Africa], Dec.11 (ANI): West Indies legend Courtney Walsh has expressed his desire to coach the national Caribbean side, saying that he will definitely give it a shot if he will be given any offer by the country's cricket board in future. Walsh is currently set to join the Bangladesh cricket team as a bowling coach for three years after a lack of opportunities at home. However, the 54-year-old, who has never been involved in any permanent role with the West Indies team before, now leaves door open to taking up a position with them in the future. "I have got three years down there with them (Bangladesh) so I don't know what is going to happen after that, but I am not going to say 'yay' or 'nay'," Sport24 quoted Walsh as saying. "If the chance comes to represent the West Indies at some point in time in that capacity, it's something I will seriously think about, but at this present time, where I am is where I am," Walsh, who played a total of 132 Tests in his illustrious career, said. Ecstatic to join the Bangladesh team, Walsh said that he is looking forward to learn all he can and impart the knowledge he has onto his charges. "A lot of people were saying that it's (Bangladesh) a spin country and I shouldn't be there, but I am happy to be there, and play my part, and I think that once they play to their true potential," the former West Indies cricketer said. It will be Walsh's first major coaching role in international cricket since retiring from the game in 2001 as the leading wicket-taker in Tests. Bangladesh will head to New Zealand for a three-match ODI series , three T20Is and two Tests beginning at the Hagley Oval on Boxing Day. (ANI)
