Chris Rogers bids adieu to first-class cricket in style
Johannesburg [South Africa], Sept.23 (ANI):Former Australian batsman Chris Rogers has announced his retirement from first-class cricket after scoring a century in each innings of Somerset's final County Championship match at Taunton in England. The 39-year-old struck a brilliant 132 run-knock before scoring an unbeaten 100 in the second innings to guide his side to a massive 325 run-win over Nottinghamshire in the County Championship. Somerset's victory inside three days might have put the pressure on title rivals Middlesex or Yorkshire to win their upcoming match at Lord's on Friday's fourth and final day. A draw between the two sides would hand the Rogers-led team to their maiden Championship title. While announcing his retirement, Rogers insisted it was quite special to finish off his illustrious career on a promising note. "I'm getting old. I am going to miss playing and the standing ovation from the crowd was very special, but it happens in all careers and it's time to move on," he was quoted as saying by Sport24. Rogers scored a total of 25,470 first-class runs in 313 matches he played at an average of 49.55, including 76 hundreds and 122 fifties. The former Middlesex batsman, who announced retirement from international cricket after 2015 Ashes, also notched up 2,015 runs, including five hundreds and 14 fifties, in 25 matches he played for his country.
