Brathwaite rues batting failure post T20 defeat against Pakistan
Dubai [UAE], Sept. 24 (ANI): Following West Indies' crushing defeat at the hands of Pakistan in the first T20 here in Dubai, skipper Carlos Brathwaite has rued the batting failure of his team, saying it was "poor execution" and a failure to "assess conditions quickly enough" that led to them being bowled out for 115. The reigning T20 champions were bowled out for a paltry score as Pakistan left-arm spinner Imad Wasim rattled through their batting line with figures of 5 for 14. West Indies had only two batsmen who reached double-figures. "[We lost because of] poor execution, [their] good bowling, you know we are an aggressive, exciting team, two games ago we scored 240 odd and today we scored 115," Espncricinfo quoted Brathwaite as saying. He also heaped praise on Wasim, saying, "Credit must go to Imad Wasim who bowled fantastically, anytime you get 5 for 14 in an international match you must be doing something right, and to get it in a T20 international is even better." He, however, said that they are an aggressive exciting team and would keep their chin up in the next game. Wasim's spin assault routed the West Indies for a low score of 115 in 19.5 overs which Pakistan surpassed in 14.2 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo avoided a total disaster in the team's inning and hit a gritty half-century. In the process he also set a new world for a record Twenty20 stand of 66 runs for the ninth wicket with Jerome Taylor who made 21. The second match will also be played today in Dubai while the third is in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. Both teams will also play three one-day internationals and as many Tests. (ANI)
