Bangladesh recall Shafiul Islam for Champions Trophy
Dhaka [Bangladesh], Apr 20 (ANI): Bangladesh have recalled right-arm pacer Shafiul Islam to their 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy to be held in England and Wales from June 1 to June 18. Shafiul's last ODI appearance came against England in October 2016, after which he suffered a hamstring injury during the Bangladesh Premier League. The 27-year-old has so far taken 63 wickets in 56 ODIs. Wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan, pacer Subashis Roy and all-rounder Shuvagata Hom, who were all part of Bangladesh's most recent ODI series in Sri Lanka, have not been included in the squad. Nurul and Subashis, however, have been included in the 18-man preliminary squad that will undergo a training camp in Sussex from April 26 to May 6 and also play in a triangular ODI series in Ireland that begins in mid-May, reports ESPNcricinfo. Chief selector Minhajul Abedin said Shuvagata's omission from both the squad was due to English conditions requiring fewer spinners. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan, who is currently playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Indian Premier League (IPL), will join the squad on May 4. Champions Trophy squad: Tamim Iqbal, Somya Sarkar, Imrul Kayes, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Sabbir Rahman, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan, Sunzamul Islam, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (Captain), Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Rubel Hossain, Shafiul Islam. Standby: Nasir Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Subashis Roy, Md. Saif Uddin.
