Australia's Rene Farrell bids adieu to ODIs
Sydney [Australia], Apr 20 (ANI): Australian women fast bowler Rene Farrell, who made her international debut in 2007, has announced her retirement from One-Day International (ODI) cricket. The 30-year-old, however, will continue to play in Tests and T20Is, as well as in domestic cricket for the NSW Breakers, the Sydney Thunder and the Surrey Stars. Reflecting on her decision, Farrell insisted that it is the right time to bid adieu to ODIs, with preparations all set to begin ahead of this year's World Cup. "With preparations about to begin ahead of this year's World Cup, the time felt right for me to retire from one-day cricket for Australia. I've had mixed fortunes in this format over the last few years and I no longer feel I can give what is required to compete at this level," ESPNcricinfo quoted Farrell as saying. Admitting that it was an honour for her to be a part of the winning side in the ICC Women's Championship, Farrell said she was looking forward to continue to represent Australia in the T20s and Tests for a few more years. "It was an honour to be a part of the ICC Women's Championship and to be part of the inaugural winning side is something I regard as very special in my ODI career. I still have the desire to represent Australia in the T20 and Test arenas and look forward to spending more time with the NSW Breakers and taking on more of a mentoring role to help our up and coming players progress to the next level," she added. Farrell has appeared in a total of 44 ODIs, notching up a total of 42 wickets at an average of 30.78. She also played three Tests and 54 T20Is.(ANI)
