Australia on top as persistent rain halts Sri Lanka Test
Pallekele, July 27 (ANI): Persistent rain has forced an early abandonment of day two's play of the opening Test between Sri Lanka and Australia at Pallekele on Wednesday. Sri Lanka were six for one, trailing Australia by 80 runs, when a sudden downpour forced the players to take an early tea break at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Sport24 reported. The umpires called stumps early for the second consecutive day after the outfield was rendered unplayable. Hosts Sri Lanka produced an improved show on the second day, bundling out Australia for 203 in reply to their first innings total of 117. Adam Voges was the top-scorer for Australia with 47. Veteran Sri Lankan spinner Rangana Herath and debutant Lakshan Sandakan bagged four wickets each while seamer Nuwan Pradeep claimed two wickets. Sri Lanka still have an uphill task ahead of them to achieve parity when they will resume their innings on day three. (ANI)
