Ashwin plans to be `as boring as possible` to succeed against Windies
Barbados, July 14 (ANI): Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has vowed to remain as boring as possible in order to emerge as a successful bowler in the upcoming four-match Test series against West Indies. Insisting that patience will be the key in the Caribbean condition, Ashwin pointed out that he would stick to his good line and length. "I'm sure it's going to be challenging because of the kind of wickets, the kind of heat ... From whatever I saw in the last [warm-up] game, the wickets were pretty slow. I'm sure I'll have to be as boring as possible in terms of trying to plug away all day long," the 29-year-old was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. Ashwin did not feature in the opening warm-up match, but said that he learnt a lot about the Caribbean condition by watching leg-spinner Amit Mishra, who bagged four-wicket haul during his side's draw against West Indies Cricket Board President XI at St. Kitts. "The other day you saw Mishy bowl for about 15-16 overs without any wickets, but once he got a breakthrough, he started breaking through at regular intervals. So that's what we have to look for - especially the first couple of days or probably even three days of the Test match, there is not going to be a lot in it for the spinners," Ashwin added. Ashwin also heaped praise on new head coach Anil Kumble, saying that the former Indian skipper has brought in a lot of meticulousness within the team. The off-spinner said that Kumble has provided him with a lot of confidence and responsibility while adding that he is looking forward to learn under him ahead of the upcoming series. India will play their second two-day warm up game in Basseterre from July 14 before heading the four-match Test series, starting July 21 at Antigua. (ANI)
