Ashwin creates history as India inch closer to victory in Hyderabad Test

Hyderabad [India], Feb.12 (ANI):India need seven more wickets to win one-off Test match against Bangladesh after reducing the visitors to 103-3 in their second innings on Day Four at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Sunday. Bangladesh ended the day needing 356 more runs to win the Test and three sessions to survive, with Shakib Al Hasan (9*) and Mahmudullah (21*) batting at the crease. After losing opener Tamim Iqbal cheaply for three runs, Soumya Sarkar (42) and Mominal Haque (27) joined forces and shared crucial 60-run stand before falling prey to Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin respectively. Earlier, India bowled out Bangladesh for 388 runs to take a 299-run lead in the first innings. Subsequently, Cheteshwar Pujara scored an unbeaten 54-run knock off 58 balls, his 13th Test half-century, to help India post a total of 158 runs declared in the second innings and set a target of 459. The fourth day also saw Ashwin adding yet another feather on his cap by becoming the quickest bowler to claim 250 wickets in Test cricket. The 30-year-old created history when he dismissed Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (127) in the visitors' first innings. By reaching the milestone in 45 matches, Ashwin has also surpassed Australian bowling legend Dennis Lillee's record, who achieved the feat in 48 matches. Interestingly, it was for the first time that Bangladesh did manage to stretch a Test against India to the final day without any assistance from weather or rain.(ANI)
