Anderson ruled out of Chennai Test due to 'body soreness'

Chennai [India], Dec. 15 (ANI): England skipper Alastair Cook on Thursday informed that James Anderson, who has developed body soreness from the Mumbai Test, will miss the fifth and the final match of the series against India to be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium at Chennai beginning tomorrow. "Unfortunately, Jimmy (James Anderson) is ruled out. He picked up a couple of body soreness from the last game. Anderson developed body soreness from previous game, having him on field in this game is not worth the risk," Cook said at the presser on the eve of the Chennai Test. "It is the ankle as well, and a bit of the shoulder," Cook said, adding that the swing bowler has broken down in the past when he had carried a niggle on to the field. Anderson, England's leading wicket-taker had been out since August with a shoulder injury before returning to play the second Test of the five-match series in India. The 34-year-old pacer was also involved in a controversy when he had said that India's batting mainstay Virat Kohli's technical flaws were getting hidden because of helpful pitches in India. His comments however backfired on him, with former cricketers slamming him for his uncharitable remarks for a batsman who has scored over 2,500 runs in international cricket this year. Meanwhile, the decision on the availability of fellow paceman Stuart Broad, recovering from a foot injury, would be taken after Thursday's practice. "Broady is fit and has a chance. He bowled at a local ground on Wednesday. It's great to have him back," said Cook. England go into the Chennai Test already having lost the series 3-0 and thus would be eyeing for a consolatory win against the Virat Kohli-led side. "When you lose a game you are criticised, even when Virat loses a game he is also criticised," Cook insisted. (ANI)
