Akram concerned about Afridi-Miandad spat, calls for 'mediation'
Karachi [Pakistan] Oct. 12 (ANI): Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram, who is really sad to see the ongoing spat between former Pakistan skippers Shahid Afridi and Javed Miandad over the former's demand for a farewell match, has called for quick resolve between the two by "appropriate mediation." Akram took to Twitter to express his concern saying, "Javed Bhai & Shahid mean a lot to me & to Pakistan. It's really sad to see what's happening between them. InshAllah it will be over soon." "The stones being thrown between 2 very respected cricketers calls for quick resolve by appropriate mediation instead of this unwanted chaos," he added. An verbal altercation has been going on between Afridi and Miandad after both of them accused each other of being money-centric. The flamboyant Pakistani all-rounder has decided to take legal action against the legendary batsman after the latter levelled allegations of match fixing against the former T20I captain. According to The Express Tribune, the 36-year-old all-rounder would be sending a legal notice to Miandad on Thursday. Speaking during the book launch ceremony of sports journalist Saleem Khaliq on Sunday, Afridi had said money has always been an issue for Miandad, which separated him from World Cup winning captain Imran Khan. The 59-year-old, who was the part of the 1992 World Cup winning eleven, then accused Afridi of match fixing. "I challenge Afridi to swear upon his daughter and say that he didn't sell Pakistan's matches," said Miandad. It is reported that the flamboyant all-rounder and his lawyers are going through video clips and will send the notice after the end of public holiday this week. "Afridi and his lawyer are watching clips of Miandad and his allegation thoroughly, and will be sending the required legal notice on October 13 as the offices remain close on 9th and 10th of Muharram," the source said. Afridi had made the headlines last month with his demand for a rousing send-off during the three-match T20 series against the West Indies, which Pakistan went on to clean sweep. "Farewell match is my right", Afridi had insisted while urging the PCB to provide him with an opportunity to bid adieu to international arena in a befitting manner. Afridi, who stepped down from the captaincy after the World T20 debacle in India, is yet to announce his retirement from the game's shortest format. (ANI)
