Adelaide [Australia], Nov.25 (ANI):Opener Usman Khawaja struck a scintillating unbeaten century to put Australia in a commanding position against South Africa on the day two of the day-night third Test at the Adelaide Oval here on Friday. Resuming at an overnight score of 14-0, Khawaja smashed 14 boundaries in his 138-run knock besides sharing a huge partnership of 137 runs with skipper Steve Smith (59) to help his side reach 307-6 at stumps. Peter Handscomb (54) was another notable contributor for the hosts. At the end of the second day's play, Australia had taken a vital 48-run lead in reply to South Africa's declared first-innings score of 259-9. For South Africa, Kyle Abbott was the pick of the bowlers for his figures of three for 38. Vernon Philander and Kagiso Rabada also chipped in with a wicket each. Earlier, Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis single-handedly led the side as he struck a 118-run knock to guide South Africa past 200-plus score in their first innings. (ANI)
