US Open: Federer faces Benoit Paire in second round

New York [United States of America], August 30 (ANI): Twenty-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer will look to continue his winning momentum in the ongoing US Open when he crosses swords with French player Benoit Paire in the second round of the men's singles event here at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Thursday.
The 37-year-old had earlier defeated Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 in their opening-round clash to storm into the next round.
Heading into the match, Federer is an evident favourite as he holds a 100% winning record against the French player.
The last meeting between the two players came during the 2018 Halle Open where the Swiss tennis maestro handed over a crushing 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7) defeat to Paire.
Meanwhile, world number one Rafael Nadal also moved to the third round of the ongoing tournament after sweeping aside Vasek Pospisil of Canada 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in their round-of-64 clash.
In the women's singles event, American tennis star Serena Williams thrashed Carina Witthoeft of Germany 6-2, 6-2 to get into the third round of the tournament. (ANI)
