Florida [USA], Jan 6 (ANI): World number one Simona Halep has confirmed that she would start her campaign in the 2019 season without the services of her coach Darren Cahill.
The 27-year-old, while asserting that she shares a very good relationship with the coach, said that Cahill parted ways with her "because of his family" adding that she fully understood his decision and is not upset with the same.
"The situation is that for the next three to four months, I don't want to take the coach. I'm not thinking about that. I just go with the flow and I'll see how it works, kind of, alone. He took the decision because of the family and the family comes first always. I was not disappointed or upset, I fully understood. We have a very good relationship," WTA quoted Halep, as saying.
Halep admitted that the journey without her coach is going to be tough but at the same time she was confident of proving herself on the court at her own.
"Actually, it's tough a little bit, but I feel confident that I can do my own things on the court. I'm more responsible now on everything that I have to do. Maybe it's a good thing, I will see. I just want to chill. I had enough pressure. I had enough tension during these years. Now I feel like I don't want to commit to anyone because when you take a coach you have to commit to that person and you want to do the best for him and the team," Halep said.
"I have no pressure, but I'm still motivated to see how good I can be this year. It's going to be a tough start because I have almost three months without official matches and without a coach," she added.
Talking about her priorities in the 2019 season, the Romanian player said that she wants to be 100 per cent fit and healthy.
"The most I'm looking forward to is my health. I want to be 100 per cent healthy with my back. So I will look after it a lot during this period. I also want to improve my attitude. I know I talked a lot about it last year but I still want to improve. The tennis will take care of itself I think, if I train normal, if I train hard, I think I will be ok," she said.
Halep is slated to start her 2019 campaign at the ongoing Sydney International which will conclude on January 12. (ANI)
