Nadal, Halep named top seeds for US Open

London [UK], August 22 (ANI): World number ones Rafael Nadal and Simona Halep have been named top seeds for the final major of the season, US Open, which will commence from August 27 at the National Tennis Centre.

London [UK], August 22 (ANI): World number ones Rafael Nadal and Simona Halep have been named top seeds for the final major of the season, US Open, which will commence from August 27 at the National Tennis Centre.
Recently, Nadal clinched his fourth Canadian Masters 1000 title at the Rogers Cup after registering a convincing straight-sets victory against teenage player Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece.
Twenty-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer is placed as second seed while Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina and German player Alexander Zverev has been named third and fourth seed, respectively, ATP website reported.
For women's singles event, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark is seeded second followed by Sloane Stephens and Angelique Kerber.
Meanwhile, American tennis star Serena Williams, who recently suffered a shocking 1-6, 0-6 straight-sets defeat against unseeded player Johanna Konta of Britain in the first round of the San Jose Tournament, has been seeded at the 17th place for the US Open.
Other notable players who made it to the list of the seeded players include Maria Sharapova at number 22 and Venus Williams at 16th position.(ANI)
