Murray to end his 2018 season early

London [UK], Sep 22 (ANI): Former world number one Andy Murray, who had withdrawn from the 2018 Wimbledon championship owing to a hip injury, has confirmed that he would be participating in two tournaments in China before putting an early end to his 2018 season.
The 31-year-old further stated that he needs a long period of training to get ready for the next tennis season.
"I am competing in Shenzen and next week in Beijing before calling an end to the year competitively. I'll miss the last couple of tournaments of the year," Murray said in a video posted on his official Facebook page.
"I need a long period of training and reconditioning to get myself in the best shape possible for the beginning of the 2019 season and getting myself back competing for the biggest tournaments again," he added.
Reflecting on his experience in the current season so far, the British tennis maestro said that the last few months were quite positive for him and that he recovered well from his hip injury.
"It's been really positive the last few months. I feel like I made big strides forward in the rehab from the hip surgery. I feel that with another strong training period, I'll make some big improvements," he added.
"Hopefully, the next couple of weeks go well in China, looking forward to it," Murray added.
Murray has had a tough 2018 season after he pulled out of three major Grand Slam events of the year including Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon championship due to a hip injury.
He participated in 2018 US Open where he made an early exit after being defeated by Fernando Verdasco of Spain in the second round of the tournament. (ANI)
