Kazakhstan, China not unbeatable: Tennis player Karman Kaur

New Delhi [India], Feb 8 (ANI): Indian tennis player Karman Kaur Thandi on Thursday said that Kazakhstan and China are not unbeatable in the game.

Thandi lost her singles encounter today as India conceded a 1-2 defeat from Kazakhstan in their Pool A tie of the Federation Cup tennis tournament.

"Kazakhstan and China are not unbeatable; it is just some crucial points here and there. I think we are on the same level," Thandi told ANI after her match.

Talking about Indian ace player Sania Mirza, who is not part of the Fed Cup following a knee injury, Thandi said the team definitely miss her.

"She is a great player. And the support and experience that she has and she shares it with us and it helps us to move on," Thandi said.

She added that though Mirza is not a part of the four-member Indian contingent but the team always have her support.

Reflecting her views over India's future in tennis, the 19-year-old said, "As players we try are best when we go on the court. We play well in some matches, and some that we learn from or some are bad days. It is just keeping the hard work and moving forward and not relying on past."

India lost the Fed Cup tie 1-2 to Kazakhstan and are now out of the World Group Play-offs.

Ankita Raina wins her singles encounter, but her efforts went in vain as India were defeated in the decisive doubles.

Riana overcame Yulia Putintseva 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 in a hard fought battle, which lasted for over two hours and 25 minutes.

In the decisive doubles, the duo of Anita and Prarthana Thombare were defeated 0-6, 4-6 by the team of Diyas and Putintseva.

Earlier, Thandi lost her opening singles of the Asia/Oceania Group I tie to world number 55 Zarina Diyas.

On the opening day of the event India lost 1-2 to China and will now face Hong Kong to fight for their place in the Asia/Oceania Group I. (ANI)
