New York [Unites States of America], August 28 (ANI): Former world number one, Novak Djokovic is eyeing to kick-start his campaign at the US Open on a winning note while taking on Hungarian tennis player Marton Fucsovics in the opening match of the men's singles event here at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old, who recently clinched his fourth Wimbledon title, has been the most consistent performer in the tournament as he hasn't lost before semi-finals since 2006. He will look to maintain the consistency this time, as well.
Fucsovics, on the other hand, does not hold a very impressive record at the tournament having lost during his previous two visits to flushing meadows.
Though both the players will be meeting for the first time in the court, it is the Serbian ace, who is ahead of the Hungarian player with a better record in the tournament.
Meanwhile, world number one Rafael Nadal won his opening clash of the tournament against Davis Ferrer of Spain as the latter retired due to a calf injury while trailing 3-6, 4-3 in the match.
In women's singles event, American tennis star Serena Williams easily edged past Magda Linette of Poland 6-4, 6-0 to enter the second round of the tournament. (ANI)
