New Delhi [India], Apr.12 (ANI): Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Vijay Goel has condoled the sudden demise of Badminton Association of India (BAI) President Akhilesh Das Gupta. In his condolence message, Goel said that Akhilesh Das Gupta was a multifaceted personality, who contributed immensely in the field of education, government and sports administration. He added that in Akhilesh Das Gupta's death he has lost not only a personal friend but also a fellow sports administrator whose contribution in the promotion of badminton will always be remembered. Recalling his last meeting with Akhilesh Das Gupta during the recently concluded India Open World Superseries 2017 in New Delhi, Sports Minister said he will always cherish his fond memories. Former union minister and Congress leader Akhilesh Das Gupta breathed his last here on Wednesday following a heart attack. He was 56 years old. He was the son of freedom fighter late Babu Banarasi Das, who also served as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. Besides being president of the BAI, he was the vice-president of Badminton Asia Confederation, a member of the Executive Council of Badminton World Federation and vice-president of the Indian Olympic Association. As a national-level badminton player, Gupta had represented Uttar Pradesh and the country in various International Badminton Tournaments. The CBI completed the investigation and sent its report to the Sports Ministry, Government of India, but no action had been taken yet. (ANI)
