Rio Olympics: `Ready to win a medal,` says boxer Vikas Krishan

By Vivek Prabhakar Singh Rio de Janerio, Aug 14 (ANI): Indian boxer Vikas Krishan, who made it to the quarterfinals of the 75-kg middleweight boxing event at the Rio Olympics, has said that he is ready to win a medal for India. The Asian Games gold medallist and World championship bronze medallist won a unanimous 3-0 points decision from the judges as he beat Sipal Onder of Turkey in the pre-quarterfinals at the Riocentro Pavilion on Friday. "I have been trying very hard for the last 15 years to come at this stage. Last three years especially, have been very tough for me. But now I am ready to win a medal for the nation," Krishan told ANI. Talking about his upcoming match against second seed Uzbekistan's boxer Bektemir Melikuziev, the seventh-seeded Indian boxer said, "I have lost one match against him in the Asian Championship. I want to take revenge of that loss. The situation is different now. I am in my form and believe that I can defeat him." "All the people who know me believe that I can be defeated only if I am under pressure. If I play my natural game, I won't lose," he said. A semifinal entry will ensure a medal and the 24-year-old boxer will attempt to emulate Mary Kom and Vijender Singh in winning Olympic medals. (ANI)
