Rio 2016: India's swimming campaign ends as Shivani Kataria , Sajan Prakash bow out
Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Aug.8 (ANI): India's challenge in the pool ended at Rio Olympics as both swimmers Shivani Kataria and Sajan Prakash crashed out of the tournament after failing to qualify in their respective 200m butterfly heats event here on Monday. Prakash finished with a time of 1:59:37, marginally behind his own best, which incidentally is also a national record in this discipline, to end the event at 28th spot over all heats. The 22-year-old, who hails from Kerala, missed the qualifying mark by 2.65 seconds. He was 4.64 seconds behind race leader Tamas Kenderesi of Hungary. Kataria, on the other hand, started very impressively, but she failed to capitalize on that and ended up with a slowest reaction time in Heat 1. However, Kataria faltered from there as she finished with a time of 2:09.30, five seconds off her best to end at 41st spot in the final ranking. Prakash and Kataria were the sole male and female Indian swimmers at the Rio Olympics. (ANI)
