PV Sindhu receives grand welcome post historic Olympic feat at Hyderabad Airport

Hyderabad, Aug 22 (ANI): Following her successful feat at the Rio Olympics, silver medalist P.V. Sindhu arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad today.

Hyderabad, Aug 22 (ANI): Following her successful feat at the Rio Olympics, silver medalist P.V. Sindhu arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad today. Sindu was received with rousing reception as scores of fans and well wishers thronged to the airport to have a glimpse of the ace shuttler. To celebrate her victory, the Telangana Government has prepared a grand civil reception to Sindhu and her coach Gopichand. State Information and Technology Minister Taraka Ramarao will be leading a large contingent of ministers, officials and school children, in welcoming the 21 year old athlete at the Samshabad airport. Government of Maharashtra has kept ready an open-top bus, Nilambay, to carry out a victory procession to Gachibowli Stadium where Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao will be felicitating her. Parents of Sindhu, who were awaiting her return, have expressed happiness over the arrangements made by the Telangana Government. "We are very happy, Sindhu is coming now. Everything has been arranged State government," said Vijayalakshmi, mother of Sindhu. "We are very happy to receive Sindhu. After this, our Chief Minister has arranged very good reception for her," said Ramana, father of Sindhu. En route, the star shuttler will be welcomed by school children at various points. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has installed huge welcome hoardings along the procession route. Later in the day, Sindhu will reach Pullela Gopichand Academy where she will meet her co-trainees of the academy. Ace shuttler Sindhu scripted history by becoming country's first woman athlete to clinch an Olympic silver medal. Although Sindhu missed out on gold, she displayed a superb fighting spirit against Spaniard world number one Carolina Marin throughout the summit showdown match to earn India's second medal in Rio Games. Sindhu has now become the second Indian player in badminton to win an Olympic medal after Saina Nehwal, who had clinched bronze in London four years ago. (ANI)
