PV Sindhu, Pullela Gopichand to be felicitated in Mumbai
Mumbai [India], Sep.2 (ANI): Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu and her coach Pullela Gopichand will be felicitated by Maharashtra Badminton Association in Mumbai on September 6. In her first visit to Mumbai since creating history at recently-concluded Rio Olympics, Sindhu will be felicitated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Arun Lakhani, President of the Maharashtra Badminton Association. While announcing the news of felicitation, Lakhani said, "We are delighted to host P.V. Sindhu in Maharashtra since her arrival from Brazil. On behalf of the entire Badminton fraternity, I would like to congratulate her etching herself in the history of Indian Badminton. I am certain her feat will inspire several youngsters to take up Badminton professionally. I would also like to congratulate and thank her coach, Pulela Gopichand for always being there for any young shuttler who is looking for guidance and help. His contribution to the sport cannot go unnoticed." The felicitation is an effort by Lakhani to bring the star player and role model of Badminton closer to the aspiring badminton players and officials of the Maharashtra Badminton Association. Although Sindhu missed out on gold, she scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman athlete to win silver at the Olympics. Sindhu also became the fifth Indian woman to clinch a medal in Olympics history after Karnam Malleswari, Mary Kom, Saina Nehwal and Sakshi Malik. (ANI)
