Newly-crowned PGA champion Jimmy Walker draws praise from rivals
London, Aug 1 (ANI): World number one Jason Day has heaped praise on his bus partner Jimmy Walker, describing him as an `accomplished golfer`, after the American lifted his maiden major title at US PGA Championship. Walker pulled off the astonishing feat by sloshing 36 holes across soggy Baltusrol as he closed with a three-under-par 67 to seal a one-shot victory over defending champion Day. Describing Walker as a `tremendous` bloke, Day insisted that the 37-year-old was not new to winning and that he exactly knows where to hit the ball. Day, who clinched his maiden major title last year, said that he completely understands how Walker felt following the victory while adding that he truly deserved the triumph, the Guardian reported. Meanwhile, Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler were also effusive in their praise for the newly-crowned PGA champion. Fowler remarked that although many outsiders wouldn't have Walker on the list of one of the most known golfers, he is definitely one of the best on the field. On the other hand, the world number three Spieth paid his tribute to Walker by expressing his desire to seek perspective from his compatriot. It was Walker's first victory since the US PGA Texas Open about a year ago, when he slipped from the top 10 to 48th in the world rankings.(ANI)
