Knee injury ends wrestler Vinesh Phogat's Rio Olympics stint
Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Aug.17 (ANI): In a major setback to India, wrestler Vinesh Phogat was forced to bow out of the Rio Olympics after she suffered an injury during the quarter-finals of the Women's freestyle 48kg event against Sun Yanan of China here on Wednesday. The incident took place just at two minutes 42 seconds into the bout when the Indian grappler was leading 1-0 against Yanan. The move that injured Vinesh handed the Chinese with two points and consequently to a 2-1 lead as the match was called off. A heartbroken Vinesh was taken off on a stretcher and Yanan was declared the winner. Earlier today, Vinesh produced a rich vein of form as she hammered Romania's VUC Emilia Alina 11-0 to book her place in the quarter-finals of the event. The 21-year-old had qualified for the prestigious quadrennial tournament with a victory over Evin Demirhan of Turkey in the semi-final bout at the second Olympic qualifier in Istanbul earlier this year.
