Indian Open: Sindhu to take on South Korea's Ji Hyun in semis
New Delhi [India], Apr.01 (ANI): Rio Olympics silver-medallist P.V Sindhu will aim to book her place in the summit showdown of the India Open World Super Series when she takes on Sung Ji Hyun of South Korea in the last-four contest here at the Siri Fort Sports Complex later today. Yesterday, PV Sindhu showed nerves of steel to beat her compatriot Saina Nehwal 21-16, 22-20 to book her place in the semi-finals of the tournament. Sindhu started off with a bang taking the opening game without losing much sweat and underlining her early dominance in the match. But World No. 8 Saina, known for her resilience, launched a scathing comeback to dominate the second game initially and was leading 19-16 and it looked like the match would go into the decider. However, the third-seeded Hyderabadi showed great tenacity and launched a stunning comeback to come out victorious in the blockbuster match that lasted 47 minutes. Meanwhile, Ji Hyun stormed into the last-four after defeating defending champion Ratchanok Intanon 21-16, 22-10 in 49 minutes to avenge for her loss at the All England Open. The two players have met 10 times in the past, with Sindhu winning six of those games. However, in their last meeting at the Dubai World Superseries Finals last year, Sung had defeated Sindhu to reach finals. The other last-four contest will see top-seed Carolina Marin of Spain taking on fourth-seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan for a place in the summit showdown. (ANI)
