7th Sub Jr Women's National C'ship: Assam Hockey crush Hockey Gujarat 12-0

Ramanathapuram [Tamil Nadu], Jan. 6 (ANI): A dominant performance from Assam Hockey saw them hammer Hockey Gujarat 12-0 in their Pool A encounter of the 7th Sub Junior Women's National Hockey Championship at the SDAT Velumanickam Synthetic Hockey Stadium here on Friday.

Ramanathapuram [Tamil Nadu], Jan. 6 (ANI): A dominant performance from Assam Hockey saw them hammer Hockey Gujarat 12-0 in their Pool A encounter of the 7th Sub Junior Women's National Hockey Championship at the SDAT Velumanickam Synthetic Hockey Stadium here on Friday. In the first game of the day 3, Assam Hockey scored as early as the fourth minute via Maxima Xalxo and never eased up, taking a 5-0 lead into half time. They established their superiority further in the second half with an emphatic victory. Xalxo (4', 10', 53', 68') and Elina Tigga (34', 41', 61') scored hat-tricks for Assam Hockey. Other goal scorers were, Milka Surin (30', 46'), Munmuni Das (32'), Songita Das (51') and Purobi Phukon (55'). Sports Authority of Gujarat - Hockey Academy beat Citizen Hockey XI 15-0 in their Pool B encounter. Sanya Noronha (9', 14', 34'), Prachi Patel (12', 22', 26', 54'') and Ekta Dubey (21', 23', 47') scored hat tricks in the victory. Goals were also scored by, Khushi Patel (10'), Kashish Patel (25'), Shreya Rathod (56', 66') and Shivatika Patiyal (67'). The day's third match was played between Hockey Uttarakhand and the Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd. in Pool C. The two teams played out a goalless stale mate in the first half and it took till the 39th minute for the first goal to be scored. It was Komal Dhami who broke deadlock for Hockey Uttarakhand via a penalty corner conversion. In the 55th minute, the Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd. converted a penalty corner of their own, Manvi Jadhav levelling the scores. In the 63rd minute Hockey Uttarakhand's captain Swati Kumari scored the goal that would prove to be the winner as they took home the points in a highly competitive encounter. In Pool C, Hockey Bhopal beat Telangana Hockey 9-2. Hockey Bhopal opened the scoring in the 2nd minute via Priyanka Dogra and had doubled their lead in the 4th via Kanchan Batham. Dogra complete a hat-trick in the game scoring two more goals in the 17th and 25th minute of the game. Telangana Hockey's goals were scored by Kalpana Marri (15') and Sri Latha Talari (60'). The Pool D match was played between Mumbai School Sports Association and Hockey Rajasthan, in which the former won by a narrow 1-0 margin. Sakshi Pagar from Mumbai School Sports Association scored the only goal of the match in the 6th minute as Hockey Rajasthan were unable to create opportunities, finishing on the losing side. In yesterday's final game of the day Hockey Jammu and Kashmir beat Dadra and Nagar Haveli Hockey Association 1-0 in Pool A. In a toughly fought, highly defensive encounter, Hockey Jammu and Kashmir took the lead in the 8th minute via Ishta Sharma. From there on there were few openings for either side as Hockey Jammu and Kashmir steered to a victory. The remaining day will see Hockey Jammu and Kashmir taking on Hockey Coorg in their Pool A encounter. (ANI)
