Winter Olympics: Russia curler stripped of medal for doping

England [U.K.], Feb 22 (ANI): Russian curler Alexander Krushelnitsky, who won bronze at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, has been stripped of his medal after being found guilty of doping.

Alexander won his Olympic medal with his wife Anastasia Bryzgalova in the mixed doubles event.

Russia was banned from competing at the Winter Olympics because of state-sponsored doping at the 2014 Games in Sochi.

However, 168 Russian athletes are allowed to compete in the Games under a neutral flag.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in an official statement said that said the Russian admitted the anti-doping violation.

CAS said, "The athlete has accepted a provisional suspension beyond the period of the Games and reserved his rights to seek the elimination or reduction of any period of ineligibility based on 'no fault or negligence' following the conclusion of the Games."

With Krushelnitsky and Bryzgalova's third-place annulled, the bronze medal will be awarded to the Norway pair of Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten, who had originally finished fourth.

According to the Guardian, Krushelnitsky's case will be now passed to the World Curling Federation to take further disciplinary action. (ANI)
